Sports fishing is the concept of fishing in a competitive environment. Unlike commercial fishing, sports fishing is not done for profit, but rather for prizes or status or sometimes, even just for fun.
Sports fishing is done with a range of equipment, the most common being with rod and reel, as well as a variety of different tackle and baits.
The sport of fishing is done in different ways:
- Big game fishing; this is often done in deep-sea environments but can also take place in freshwater. In these types of competition, the goal is to catch the biggest, most impressive fish of a specified species. For example, there are tuna and even shark competitions.
